Tiled itself does not need the performance benefits of using a texture atlas, after all. File created by TexturePacker, a program used for creating sprite sheets and for optimizing images stores a sprite sheet, which is a canvas arrayed tightly with bitmap images enables multiple images to be compacted within the same file. So I'm closing this issue since I consider the new "image collection" tilesets a better way of supporting this use-case. This avoids quite a bit of complexity in Tiled, for example handling changing atlas files (which often change rather randomly when adding/removing images due to finding the optimal arrangement), supporting things like rotated images (which can save space on the atlas) or images that had their transparent boundaries auto-cropped. ![]() You would use this to refer to your source images, while in your engine you would map them by their file name using the meta-file that a program like TexturePacker creates for you, and render them in whatever way necessary. Instead of adding support for various texture packers and their atlas index files, Tiled now features "image collection" tilesets that can refer to multiple individual images that do not need to be of the same size.
